What is Digital Marketing and SEO?

Digital Marketing involves utilizing various digital media platforms, such as mobile devices, social media, and webpages across the internet to spread your content, drive traffic, communicate messages to consumers, and increase your conversion rate. Nowadays, many successful comlanies regularly utilize these tactics to promote their brand over the web and sell their products or services.  Some of the different aspects of marketing online include:

  • Search Engine Optimization (SEO):

    Search Engine Optimization involves incorporating strategies to optimize your webpage for Google indexing, increase your site’s PageRank, and achieve a higher position within Google’s organic search.  It can be broken up into 2 categories:

  • On-Site SEO:

    • On-site SEO involves optimizing the content hosted on your webpage for Google Search to achieve better results.  Several tactics can be used to make your webpage more readable to Google’s crawlbots, such as utilizing meta tags and descriptions, adding alt-text to your images, and using anchor text for hyperlinks.  It also involves continuously updating pages on your site with relevant and quality content in relation to your sites theme.  Keywords you target can be incorporated into your posts to help target different markets.
  • Off-Site SEO:

    • Implementing strategies and campaigns that involve utilizing sources outside of your site structure to help build up your ranking for a page.  A crucial aspect of off-site optimization involves building backlinks to your website.  Backlings are links to your content that are hosted on another domain. The more reputable the link you obtain is, the larger impact it will have on your page’s position in search results.  Some common tactics that are utilized by SEO experts include building a following and sharing frequent content on social media platforms, blog and article posting to other sites, and developing rich and engaging substance, such as YouTube videos and infographics about your topic that others will want to share.
  • Search Engine Marketing (SEM):

    SEM involves increasing a wepage’s visibility on a search engine through paid advertising.  This involves researching specific search terms that consumer are likely to use when looking for a product or service, and bidding to have your ad appear when those terms are searched.  Through Google networks, this can be implemented using Google’s AdWords service.  Strategies can be planned using the keyword planner, and you then can bid on these targeted keywords to display your ads on Google’s Search and Display networks.  It also involves creating related quality ads that will drive traffic and produce results.  With higher quality ads, the required bid to achieve an ad location is reduced.

  • Social Media Marketing:

    Social Media Marketing involves the use of different social media platforms, such as Facebook, Twitter, Reddit, and Instagram, to build attention and gain traffic towards your webpage.  Posting useful content to your followers can drive traffic to your webpage, as well as the sharing of your links.
